Sunday, April 1 was a bittersweet event - in many ways. It was the last film presentation of the 2012 Wakefield International Film Festival - bitter - but it was a GREAT evening - sweet! Local chocolatier Marc Fournier from La confiserie de Wakefield, presented another magical chocolate sculpture - both bitter and sweet! - for the lucky winner of the PAYBACK "It's a sweet deal" draw. It was a fantastic creation heralding Spring, rebirth and Easter which you can see on the left side of the table in the picture in our blog entry here.

One of the things that WIFF organisers are particularly happy about these days is the audience the Festival has created. Due in part to the filmmaker or expert Q & As, the panel discussions and the other 'value-added' happenings after the screenings - and also due to the kind of people who attend - the WIFF audience has a definite character. It's a participatory and involved kind of group who are eager to learn from and hash out the ideas and questions the films raise. Could there be any better kind of audience for a documentary film festival? We don't think so! It's always a delight that such a huge percentage of the audience not only stays for the 'value addeds' but also lingers in the lobby afterwards, discussing what they've seen and the issues raised. Fantastic, wot?!? And, as the audience grows, this tendency grows as well. How great is that?

Next year, organisers are planning to have a Best of Fest poll and will be seeking a sponsor to provide a cash award to the filmmaker whose film wins this poll. Audience members who see at least five of the films in the WIFF 2013 lineup will be eligible to vote for their favourite. If you want to vote, though, you'll have to bring either your pass or our other voting card to the films with you, so your 'views' can be substantiated. If you have any ideas for a sponsor for Best of Fest, please let the organisers know by emailing here.

We opened with a sellout crowd and a wonderful party. Check out the pictures here. We closed in the same way. If you came - thanks for joining us! If you weren't able to come - please join us next year. You won't regret it. WIFF is a fantastic experience all around, offering some of the very best in current documentary feature films.

And we have a new home! We screen the films in the Great Hall of the new Wakefield LaPêche Community Centre.
